Choices have light consequences, such as determining the outcome of single (or in rarer cases, chains of) events, but mostly they affect your character atributes and personalities, which, in turn, may enable other interactions or lock you out of a few.The most interesting aspect, however, is that, after completing a run (spanning something between 30 mintues and 1 hour), your character gets added to the constellations. After unlocking at least 2 or 3 of the possible endings, you'll open the battle arena (and its boss), where you can play as any of your characters who have completed a run.The problems however are in the presence of minor bugs and, most notably very flawed action segments: characters get stuck in statics and enemies, stutters happen rather often, there are no invincibility frames (leading to you getting stunlocked at times) and some enemies don't have visual queues for their attacks (mainly the ghosts). While the game itself is rather easy even on hard, these issues mount up in arena, making the 30 waves acchievement a real chore to get.All in all, I can't recommend this game at full price, unless Kitfox games actually polishes up the main gameplay and iron out a few interaction bugs.. Interesting hack-n-slash. Playing local co-op and experimenting with the different classes is really fun because their attacks are quite unique.I found the "hook" of the game--that each playthrough tells a different story--very interesting initially... but each playthrough a little less so because you start seeing more and more content from previous playthroughs. It eventually got kinda frustrating because on the one hand it felt like there was a lot of content we hadn't seen, and yet it was not clear what we were doing "wrong" that was making each of our runs so similar. It didn't help that the main puzzle you need to solve to get the best ending feels kinda arbitrary and doesn't tie into the whole storytelling aspect.All-in-all enjoyable, just frustrating that it doesn't quite live up to its promises.. One of my favorite games to come out in recent years. Moon Hunters is an incredibly enrapturing experience, though one to be played in small doses. It's the kind of game to play sparingly, as trying to grind every achievement at once takes a lot of fun out of the game. Definitely recommend it for people who like RPGs or D&D and enjoy getting into the mindset of their character, and develop them through choices that they think that their character would make. Both singleplayer and multiplayer are fun experiences, though certain multiplayer features are slightly bugged, in the sense that all unlocks will go only to whoever is hosting the game, and that if people make different choices than one another the game doesn't really know how to handle it and just randomly chooses one.My few complaints are that despite how narratively and artistically rich this game is, it's still relatively shallow, and I can't see there being much replayability value after all endings, characters, etc have been unlocked. Also, the "legends" feature that writes a tale about your character is pretty buggy, and will often list things that your character definitely never did, but that's a relatively small complaint.Overall, however, Moon Hunters is a great game, though unless you're rolling in cash I recommend waiting until it's on sale to buy, as it's understandably pricey due to it being an indie game. I've had a lot of fun with it so far, and definitely recommend it.. If you've played the Yawhg, and like me said: Why aren't there more games like this? You're in luck, there is at least one game like that, and it's Moon Hunters. This top down shooter puts combat and RPG mechanics in the back seat in favor of the real reason we read books and play video games: adventure. The point of the game isn't to destroy monsters (though you will), or save the world (though you might), it's to create a story with your friends and travel the land.I played it with my two best friends after a night out at the pub, and we all ended the game immensely satisfied. I don't even mind they blatantly ripped off the concept and aesthetic of The Yawhg, with added combat, it gave us a shared experience and story that will add to our friendship long after the game is forgotten.Buy this game. Not only is it worth it, it will expand the market for story driven multiplayer games.. I first played this game with my buddy at his house with a couple of other guys. We had a blast. My only wish is that we could have a steam workshop to make new constellations, maps, terrain, archetypes, and spells. This game has incredible potential to be so much more, and it's fantastic already.. Just played a game with three of my friends.Pros:-Replayability. This is the biggest part. Each individual game is short and you progressively unlock more and more to have better and better games-Duration. Each game is only about 1-2 hours. You unlock some stuff, and immediately can jump in to a new game.-Personality. The game takes into consideration the choices you make and each ending has a personalized description of the future of your character. Some tasks can only be completed if you have a certain personality trait (ex: Proud, Vengeful). -Co-op. It was enjoyable playing with three other people, but I believe any sized group would work well too. Even individual is fun, so you really can't go wrong. And the more people you have, the funnier it is to compare stats and traits.Cons:-Camera. Mine skipped a lot, and with four people each controlling their own character, sometimes the camera doesn't catch up to our movements/has a hard time staying on the average of our group. -Environment. Don't get me wrong, the art is gorgeous, but there are some crevices and small rocks that get in your way of movement. This is especially tedious when in a large group, as you can sometimes lose track of your character. All in all 8.5/10 definitely recommend especially if on sale. I really wanted to enjoy Moon Hunters. It is (in theory) exactly the sort of narrative-driven experience I simply adore. The problem is, in practice, the game is marred with tediously repetitive combat, dull levels and a shallow recognition of your decisions - which I definitely would not call a "personality test". I played through a whole campaign with a friend only to, at the end, be greeted by a constellation description which had barely anything to do with our characters and their choices/actions.There are, of course, positive aspects. The ambience is great, some of the art really catches your eye and the soundtrack is amazing. Still, in the end the game does not achieve the experience it claims to provide. Which is very sad.
